WeWeave is a focused storytelling project exploring India’s weaving traditions through conversations with the people who know them best. The project takes V-WEAVE, the handloom and home-textile initiative within Bharat Carpet Manufacturers, as its starting point. By looking closely at the people, practices, and stories behind V-WEAVE’s work, this initiative hopes to bring more attention to the craft that often remains unseen behind the finished textile.
The project will unfold through three forms of storytelling. The Loom Letter will be a quarterly newsletter exploring different weaving traditions, their histories, and the artisans keeping them alive today. We Weave Shorts will feature conversations with weavers, craftspeople, textile historians, and others who can offer a closer look at the people and knowledge behind these traditions. The project will culminate in Weaving and Believing, a documentary bringing together these conversations with footage from workshops and studios. Together, the three parts will create a growing collection of stories around V-WEAVE and the wider world of Indian weaving.
In a small way, WeWeave is also a way of giving back to a craft that has been part of our world for generations. If V-WEAVE brings these textiles into people’s homes, WeWeave hopes to bring the stories behind them a little closer to people too.
